Social Networking

Social Networking was conceived during the first year of the pandemic, when the news cycle felt relentless and social media became something many of us clung to. Fear, anxiety, and suspicion began to shape interactions between adults. In contrast, children seemed to move through the world with an unbothered ease, as if to say that everything was still alright.

The work consists of four small figurines flying a kite shaped like a mask. It was exhibited in the group exhibition titled Twisting Uncertainty. The sculptures were placed on a stone-covered platform roughly fifty times larger than their own scale, making them almost invisible to passersby. Their subtle presence invited curiosity, rewarding only those who happened to notice them from the seating area across the platform. The installation served as a quiet metaphor for the very issue it addressed: how easily genuine, tangible connections can be overshadowed by the artificial ones.
