Mind Your Head, It's a Playground

Mind Your Head, It's a Playground

"Come sit with me, the bees are singing under a broken tree" was the opening line of my solo exhibition invitation. It was a gentle call to slow down, connect and listen. Beyond metaphor, the intimate room itself looked out toward an actual broken tree, grounding the words in quiet honesty.

Mind Your Head, It’s a Playground was conceived not simply as an exhibition, but as a shared space to gather, exchange, and be present with one another. I wanted guests to move beyond the role of passive observer and instead enter the room as participants, bringing their own thoughts, memories, and emotions into the experience.

The atmosphere echoed the warmth of a small tea room: a sanctuary for conversation, a place where ideas could be poured slowly, and where the threshold between artist and viewer could soften. It was arranged both intuitively and intentionally to feel welcoming yet reflective. The space encouraged spontaneous dialogue while still offering quiet corners for pause and contemplation. More than a backdrop, it became a setting for presence, for being together in the moment.

The Flower Picker formed the central focus of the exhibition. Drawing inspiration from ancient Indonesian art, the twenty-one sculptures reveal stories rooted in everyday life and touch on themes of identity, mental health, and environmental crisis.
